626
Sasanians take Constantinople by bribing a Byzantine commander to open gates. The war concludes with a decisive Persian victory. Sasanians restore Achaemenid Empire by reclaiming Thrace, Anatolia, Levant and Egypt. Sasanian empire doesn't decay as Khosrow II isn't assassinated due to his defeat to Heraclius which caused the Sasanian civil war of four years and fourteen successive kings which destroyed Sasanians beyond repair and made way for it's conquest by Arabs doesn't occur so Sasanians keep their territory in Bahrain ,Oman, Yemen , Khorasan and Transoxiana. Khosrow II keep the empire united living for another decade into his mid 60s like his grandfather Khosrow I.
Avar conquer and Slavs settle all of Balkans and don't disintegrate preventing rise of Bulgars
Byzantines hold on to Crete and Cyprus with their navy and control all of Mediterranean because of Sasanians lacking a strong navy
Heraclius and his army escape to Carthage. He issues an Edict of Toleration for Christians of all sects to prevent sectarian conflict. As he was already using the title Basileus (king) he issues succession laws cementing his dynasty's place in empire and abolishes the senate which was already lost in Constantinople butterflying away most of court intrigue that plagued Byzantines until fourth crusade which destroyed the senate
627
Battle of Trench : Khosrow II decides to help Meccans after learning of Muhammed attacking caravan trade that gave custom taxes to him. Meccans with Sasanian help sack medina ending Islam. Hejaz becomes a Sasanian vassal
628
Byzantines Lost both trade routes to East i.e., Crimea and Egypt. They need to find another route to east. Romans like Ptolemy believed earth was 28% small they would assume that Western route to China would be 13000 km and only half of going around Africa which 26000 km Roman ships were capable of crossing Atlantic https://www.phoeniciansbeforecolumbus.com/the-expedition Byzantines leave Tingis (Tangier) sailing west reach Hispaniola. They find an abundance of gold and explore the Caribbean. News of gold rich mystery land reach Heraclius
630s Army is dispatched to conquer these rich lands in east for gold to revive finances lost in Constantinople. They conquer stone age Caribbean, Maya and Mexico valley with iron armoured infantry, cataphracts and trebuchets and plague killing 95% of population. Soldiers settle in the land emptied by plague. They send the Gold and other treasures with news of Gold and emerald rich lands to the south(Muisca, Wari Empire, Tiwanaku Empire) back to Heraclius
Army in Mexico with New troops and equipment sent by Heraclius smash through the Andes as they were well trained in mountain warfare in Anatolian mountains and conquer Muisca, Wari Empire, Tiwanaku Empire with help of plague as with mexico
Soldiers settle in the land emptied by plague
641 Heraclius dies according to his will is succeeded Constantine III, Heraklonas, former dies and latter becomes sole emperor. Heraclius's Edict of Toleration for Christians of all sects butterflies away sectarian civil war that deposed Heraklonas and coronated Constans II New world is flooded by Christian immigrants fleeing persecution of Sasanians and jews who branded them as remnants of old Rome
650 Zoroastrian golden age of science happens in Sasanian Empire Academy of Gundishapur where a 100 years ago Khosrau I gave refuge to various Pagan philosophers and Syriac-speaking Nestorian Christians banished by Justinian. Khosrau I also commissioned the refugees to translate Greek and Syriac texts into Pahlavi he also invited Indian and Chinese scholars to Gundeshapur. These visitors translated Indian texts on astronomy, astrology, mathematics and medicine and Chinese texts on herbal medicine and religion.
In OTL Gundeshapur laid the foundation of Islamic golden age as Caliph al-Ma'mūn emulated Khosrau I's above methods and staffed his House of Wisdom with graduates of the Khosrau I's Academy of Gundeshapur
650s Byzantines sail west to east via sugar and cotton producing Polynesia conquering it and Spice islands in Maluku. Viewing them as Similar climate as in Caribbean Brazil and cotton in Peru. Byzantines start plantations of sugar, spices and cotton but for slaves they look for Europe and Africa because most of Natives die of plague
Atlantic slave trade begins 800 years before than in OTL but is multiple racial with white slaves from Europe and black slaves from Africa
650-750 Byzantines conquer fertile lands of Mississippi River in Midwest, Northern California and Rio de la plata in argentina as colonia. Natives would fail with no horses as no ranches to steal like Spanish like in OTL because Byzantines themselves got all their horses from Berbers, Huns, and Turks
751 Battle of Talas : Tang Chinese defeat Sasanians as Turks don't defect due to old rivalry Sasanians during Göktürk–Persian wars
755 Sasanians conquer Tarim basin taking advatage of An Lushan Rebellion becoming the dominant force in central Asia
760s Byzantine Empire becomes the richest state in the world by selling sugar and spice crops from their vast American plantations all over Europe and Sasanian Empire Capital is relocated to Teotihuacan in Mexico valley due to vast population difference from Carthage in Mauretania and repeated Sasanian invasions
No Holy Roman Empire ? with no Arabs to weaken Aquitaine can Charles Martel unite Franks without it can Charlemagne conquer Germany and Italy ?
Jewish Turks? can Khazar proselytizism convert Turks to Judiasm since Islam is dead and Zoroastrians don't proselytize ?
Sasanians fall to Seljuk Jews? can Seljuks destroy Sasanian Empire ?
Byzantine reconquest? can Byzantines reconquest their lands using Seljuk Sasanian wars ?
Vikings in Byzantine America? can Vikings conquer Byzantine great lakes ?

2021.09.21 13:14 Opalescent_Burger [SOTC] It took me 100 watches and 10 years to get here.

Hi everyone,
This is my first state of the collection post. It comes at a good time, as (a) I'm not sure how long it'll be in this state, and (b) it's taken me five years to build this collection. Just some brief history: I started getting into watches about ten years ago, but it wasn't until 2016 that I began to suffer "watch sickness," and the illness is likely the worst it's ever been. The watch world has gone a little nuts lately, and I've decided it's best to put things on pause--if only a little while--but I wanted to share the results of this journey. I've included a couple of pics: the one I took and one that more immediately conveys what you're looking at. Anyway, I thought I'd make a list of the watches and why they're here. Starting from the top-left and moving right, then doing the same with the bottom row:

  1. Glashutte Original PanoMaticLunar in Blue: This was my first grail. I have bought and resold this piece at least four times--not because I'm ambivalent about the watch, but because I've been on an economic rollercoaster like so many. Because I'm not at a stage in which a Lange 1 is feasible, I've found that the PML is, to some degree, more my style anyway: the big date matching the color of the watch itself, as well as the extraordinary movement (with TWIN swan-neck regulators) is just beautiful. Also, because the watch is a little thick and the bezel is so small, the piece wears like a 41 or 42, but this gives this German dress watch a dash of sportiness that I appreciate.
  2. Tudor Big Block 79170, Oysterdate: This too is an old love that I once sold and have now own again. Despite this chronograph's thickness, I enjoy the watch's elegance, its screw-down pushers, and the small bits of Rolex DNA on its crown and the text on the case back. I've found the watch has a lot of presence without dominating or screaming "LOOK AT ME!"
  3. I have a thing for salmon watches, and this Sinn 356 Flieger II fits the bill for me. I tried a Seiko SARY169, but that didn't cut it--and then I considered my options. So, so many salmon watches are far outside of my price range, but the Sinn seemed to be a good value. Its dial is stunning with guilloche patterns on the dial and within the subdials. The size, at 38mm, is welcome, as is the day and date complications. I love the combination of salmon and black on this one.
  4. This is the hard-to-find Zenith El Primero Manufacture Edition, a watch I've admired for a long time, and one that took some effort to buy affordably, under MSRP. Right now, I think this is my favorite chronograph in the collection: recalling older Zenith DNA, this isn't as busy as the older, just-replaced El Primero tri-colors, but it does retain that movement--something I appreciate. Zenith's lore behind this watch is also fascinating.
  5. Omega Speedmaster Professional, blue reverse panda, Tokyo Ghost Olympics, 2020. A long time ago, I owned a Gemini IV Speedmaster Professional, and--of course--I sold the damn thing. I find the Tokyo 2020 Olympic pieces to be oddities--remnants of a very difficult year--but they're also beautiful, and this is (easily) my favorite of them.
  6. Rolex Submariner 126610. I managed to get this one from an authorized dealer on the day it was released. I wrote Rolex Corporate, they actually replied, and I apparently received the first of these in Georgia. Because my efforts gave me the "privilege" of buying this one at MSRP, I keep it. I'm proud of it. And, even if the Submariner is played out, mimicked, mocked, and a cliche, I find it beautiful.
  7. Tudor 79090 in Blue. This piece is one to which I'm sentimentally connected. It's a lovely piece, and I think its design language is different enough from the Rolex to keep in the collection. Plus, if it's not obvious yet, I love blue.
  8. Grand Seiko SBGA387 LE: I've been through lots of Grand Seikos. Too many. Of all of them, including one from the newer collection (The Silver Birch), this one is my favorite. Yes, it's got the power reserve on the front--but I actually love it. Its dial is also chameleonic: At one angle, it's sky-blue; then, at another, it's pebble-dashed with a dark blue, making the watch dynamic, extraordinary. I love it more than the Whirlpool and the Peacock.
  9. A Jaeger-LeCoultre Memovox Timer LE: So I used to own the blue Memovox anniversary edition when it was released in 2017. Of course I sold it. I was VERY lucky to get a hold of one of these--only 250 out there, and it's just a beautiful piece of high horology. I think it's my favorite in the collection.
  10. An IWC Petit Prince Mark XVIII: Yeah, yeah. This one's been out awhile, and it seems to be pretty popular. One of the first books I was introduced to as a little boy was The Little Prince, so that's my tenuous rationalization for having this one--as well as the fact that it is the most legible mechanical watch out there. Yes, it has a stock movement--but I think it's solid piece and would make a great one-watch collection.
Thanks for taking a gander!
